Water-fed pole cleaning – a cheaper alternative
As a rule, lifting equipment is used in the cleaning of windows of multi-storey buildings. Very few people know that there is an alternative method that is simpler, quicker and more affordable.
Window cleaning is a quick and easy way to freshen up the appearance of a building. Ideally, window cleaning should be carried out twice a year. Most places, however, tend to order window cleaning once a year because it is a significant expense. What makes this service expensive is the need for lifting equipment – the equipment has to be rented and in most cases at least two people are needed to operate it. Thankfully, there is another way!
One man, one pole
In some cases, the water-fed pole system can be used instead of lifting equipment. The water-fed pole system was developed due to the need to clean solar panels. In order to clean the panels, a long carbon fibre pole fitted with bristles and water filters was developed. Window cleaners also adopted this method as it allowed for more effective use of their working time.
Cleaning with only water
A water-fed pole system only uses water to clean. Not just regular water, purified water. Purified water has been filtered and is soft, thus it leaves no stains when it dries. The pole head is equipped with nozzles that spray water and special bristles that help loosen the dirt. No cleaning agents are used in the process. Moreover, the windows are not dried with a squeegee. Windows are left to air dry.
Advantages: affordable price and faster process
Top three reasons why people choose water-fed pole window cleaning.
Speed. In the case of regular window cleaning, a lot of time is spent on moving the lifting equipment around and setting it up. This can account for up to 60% of the total working time. In the case of water-fed pole cleaning, the same window area can be cleaned in half the time.
More affordable. The higher cost of window cleaning with lifting equipment is due to the rental price of the lifting equipment – it can vary quite considerably depending on availability. It should be noted that the cost of transporting the lifting equipment is added to the rental price. Water-fed pole cleaning is that much more affordable.
If the building is empty and surrounded by pavement on all sides, setting up the lifting equipment is relatively easy, but most of the time, that is not the case. Emptying the car park and closing the traffic for window cleaning are all tedious activities that you do not need to worry about if you choose water-fed pole cleaning. In addition, you do not have to worry about ruined flower beds or lawns. Water-fed pole window cleaning will not damage your landscaping.
Not suitable for every multi-storey building
Although water-fed pole cleaning is relatively flexible, it also has some limitations.
Outside taps required. An outside tap is needed to carry out water-fed pole window cleaning. Ideally, there should be several taps, on every side of the building. The water should also have sufficient pressure, because it needs to reach the window through the long pole. Indoor taps cannot be used because any hoses running through the doorway can break.
Maximum height is five storeys. The height of the building determines whether the water-fed pole system can be used or not. In the case of regular height storeys, the pole can extend far enough to clean fifth-storey windows. If one storey is higher than normal, the limit is four storeys.
One disadvantage
Some clients are not fans of water-fed pole window cleaning. Even though the window cleaner does their best, they may not always get the fifth-floor windows sparkling clean, because they just cannot see that high up very well. For this reason, it is recommended to carry our water-fed pole window cleaning regularly. When windows are cleaned regularly, the dirt does not have time to build up on the pane and the quality of the cleaning service is much better.
